TOPIC OVERVIEW

nodejs/Time functions

Schedule work in Node.js and understand when your callbacks will actually run.

12 QuestionsIntermediateHigh Priority ~8 min read

Node.js provides several timing functions for scheduling work, including setTimeout, setInterval, and setImmediate. These APIs let you delay work, repeat tasks, or schedule callbacks to run during a later stage of the event loop.

The important part is understanding that a timer does not guarantee that your callback runs at exactly the specified time. The callback becomes eligible to run after the delay, but other work already waiting in the event loop can affect when it actually executes.
